Against Russia: Department IIIb of the
Deputy General Staff in Berlin – Intelligence,
Counter-intelligence and Newspaper Research, 1914-1918

Jürgen W. Schmidt introduces open source intelligence work, particularly newspaper research, in counter-intelligence activities against Russia and sheds light on the the history of the "Stellvertretende Abteilung IIIb" in Berlin during World War I.

 

The Journal of Intelligence History is published by the International Intelligence History Study Group, founded in 1993 to promote scholarly research on intelligence organizations and their impact on historical development and international relations.
