Winter 2006/7 CONTRIBUTORS LORIE CHARLESWORTH is Senior Lecturer at the Law School, Liverpool John Moores University. She holds degrees in History and Law and a Ph.D. in Legal History from the University of Manchester. She has published extensively on the socio-legal history of welfare and, more recently, on war crimes investigations; specifically Allen Dulles’ involvement in securing Count Ciano’s Diaries, used in the prosecution and conviction of Ribbentrop at the IMT, Nuremberg. She is currently undertaking a major project researching socio-legal aspects of the investigation and prosecution of Nazi and other criminals in ‘minor’ British war crimes trials 1945-58. The article in this issue of the JIH forms a part of that project. EMIL DRAITSER holds a Ph.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles. He authored several monographs on socio-historical and political aspects of Russian culture. His latest book is a memoir, Shush! Growing up Jewish under Stalin, forthcoming from the University of California Press. Currently, he teaches at Hunter College of the City University of New York and is at work on a book-length biography of Dmitry Bystrolyotov. PENELOPE KINCH (née Epps) attained a B.A. (Hons) in History and International Relations at the University of New England, Armidale NSW, before working in Business Development at Charles Darwin University. She has published a number of articles in the field of Middle Eastern politics, as well as working as a co-editor for conference proceedings at the University of New England. She is currently a Research Scholar at the Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies at the Australian National University in Canberra. SHLOMO SHPIRO is the Director of the Center for International Communications and Policy (CICP) at bar-Ilan University in Israel. He graduated from universities in Israel and Britain and specializes in intelligence, terrorism, and communications. In the years 1999-2001 he led a research project for NATO on improving intelligence cooperation between NATO and Mediterranean countries. He has published widely on intelligence and security.
