Arms Reduction and Intelligence Cooperation:
A Historical View

by SIGURD HESS
-- abstract

This article recounts the history of arms reduction and intelligence cooperation and emphasizes the threat of weapons of mass destruction. The reader is reminded that already in January 1992, the member states of the United Nations Security Council declared that the spread of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) constituted a “threat to international peace and security.” The article concludes that the danger of the proliferation of WMD and missile technology is real and imminent.

The Journal of Intelligence History is published by the International Intelligence History Study Group, founded in 1993 to promote scholarly research on intelligence organizations and their impact on historical development and international relations.
