Hunting for Interwar European Diplomacy Secrets:
Tradecraft of Dmitry Bystrolyotov

The article concentrates on tradecraft of Dmitry Bystrolyotov, a member of the “Flying squad,” a mobile group of Soviet undercover operatives in interwar Europe, as it manifests itself in one of his most successful operation – his recruitment of a retired Swiss Army officer and adventurist Rossi de Ry. It also provides a biographical sketch of Bystrolyotov and a short account of his career that ended in him being betrayed by his own government.
